Well, they have many… But, one of the primary ones is to teach their children the gospel.
And Adam and Eve blessed the name of God, and they made all things known unto their sons and daughters.
What an amazing thing! And to be taught that from the very beginning.
And we have it not just there, but Jesus taught it both in the Old World during his mortal life and in the New World as a resurrected being teaching the Nephites. And then it’s been taught over and over since the restoration in modern times, especially in the Family Proclamation and most recently by President Dallin H. Oaks in the October 2025 General Conference.
I don’t have any children, yet I still get the opportunity to teach the gospel. I see children at church, I teach people in BYU-Pathways, I have opportunities too.
