I’m going to start out with gratitude.  I am thankful for good friends who care for me and that I care for.

I was listening to David Sprague today and he said something that’s really important:

“People buy when they see themselves in the product.”

It’s not about us, it’s about the customer.

Often we get caught up in being the hero and telling our story about how we were having this really rough time and then we learned this one little secret and all suddenly our lives and our business changed and we found success.

And the hero works, which is why it is pushed so hard.  Some people see themselves in that story and buy.

But it doesn’t work nearly as well as when you help the customer see themselves in it.  Then they really buy and they really stay.

For example, I’ve been working with this new software that helps a customer find out about their presence online – what’s good and what’s bad and how they can fix it.

Now that’s helping the customer see themselves in the product.
